About Duncan Goodman
Duncan personally navigated relocation into Dutch life, reaching fluency and building a genuine local network within roughly six months, and finding real standing within Dutch social circles as an outsider.
He has also lived the opposite outcome. An earlier international move, to the Republic of Georgia, didn't go the same way. He struggled to integrate and ultimately left the country in crisis. That experience shapes how we approach the work: it means knowing, from the inside, what a move that doesn't take actually feels like.
We exist for the stretch that usually gets left to chance: the distance between arriving in the Netherlands and actually being at home there.
Background
Duncan studied economics at the University of Michigan. His professional background spans economics research, data analytics, and business growth and development consulting. He has lived abroad several times over the years, including as a student in the Netherlands and studying Japanese in Japan. He's fluent in English, Spanish, and Dutch, works comfortably in Italian, and can get by in German and Japanese. Before founding Goodman Bureau, he helped friends and his brother through their own international relocations, informally doing, on a personal level, the kind of work we now do professionally.
